The collaboration between Buzz and William Gibson was established in 2004 after Gibson attributed a black MA-1 to Buzz Rickson's, worn by the main character in his novel 'Pattern Recognition". The jacket didn't exist, but such demand for the jacket spurred Buzz Rickson's to reach out and create a collection inspired by the fictional all-black MA-1. The M65 is arguably recognised as the definitive US Army Field Jacket. Introduced to the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, with its durable and windproof material and detachable inner lining, the M65 was made to withstand the often extreme climates of the country. Cut in Japan from a heavy duty cotton sateen (replicated to be as close to original cloth as possible), the M65 features a zip front using a Crown Aluminum Spring Automatic Lock and uses mil spec urea buttons throughout.
