Emily Ratajkowski has been appointed as Miss Self-Portrait 2024, starring in the brand's latest advertising campaign. This new initiative celebrates womanhood and draws inspiration from the theme of American beauty pageants, showcasing Ratajkowski's crowning moment.
Han Chong, the founder of Self-Portrait, reflects on the brand's name: “When I chose a name for my brand, I aimed for something universally resonant that evokes an immediate emotional response. ‘Self-Portrait’ conveys a personal and multifaceted identity. People are always evolving, experiencing a range of emotions each day. This idea underpins the brand's essence—designing for women to embrace their true selves and feel comfortable in their own skin.”
The campaign features Ratajkowski in a series of authentic portraits and videos captured by photographer Tina Barney, renowned for her intimate and evocative photography. This marks the second collaboration between Ratajkowski and Self-Portrait, highlighting new seasonal designs such as the Silver Rhinestone Fishnet Maxi Dress and the Blue Soft Knit Top and Skirt.
Chong explains the campaign’s vision: “I wanted to emphasize the celebration of women and the joy of embracing one’s individuality and beauty. This campaign represents an elevated sense of empowerment in every circumstance. Collaborating with Tina Barney, who is celebrated for her sensitive portrayal of genuine beauty and tradition, was a wonderful experience. I knew she was the ideal choice to capture Emily in her crowning moment as Miss Self-Portrait.”
